Melkeya McDuffie

Melkeya is an Advisory Member of the 1000 Women Strong Board.

"I was inspired to serve on the Board for 1000 Women Strong to support the goals of the organization, provide guidance and advocate. I aim to help create space for Black women to be heard.” 

Her Story

Melkeya McDuffie has more than 20 years of Fortune 500 Global HR leadership experience in the banking, healthcare, environmental services, and philanthropy sectors. She spent 15 years with Waste Management (NYSE:WM) ($17b revenue, Fortune 207), serving in a variety of increasingly progressive HR roles and rose to VP, Head of Organizational & Talent Development.

Since 2020, she has been the Chief Human Resources Officer, and key member of the leadership team of one of the nation's 50 largest private foundations with a mission of fostering equity improvements in learning and enrichment for young people and in the arts for everyone. She drives an innovative, people-first culture centered on building team and leadership capability and cultivating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

As Chief Human Resources Officer, Melkeya reports directly to the President. She oversees employee relations, organizational development, culture, total rewards, talent acquisition, and HR technology. She works closely with the Board of Directors as the Chair of the Governance and Compensation Committee.
